Meet Oana from Organic by Feldman #mumpreneurstories

#mumpreneurstories is a series of interviews by mumpreneurs who have joined Superhero Collective and share their journey to inspire and encourage others mums to live their dream. There is a lot we can learn from each other :) #mumpreneursquad

1. Tell us a bit about your family

It is just the three of us, Remus my supportive great husband, our Ian 18 months old, the inspiration, motivation, and energy for this project and me. At the moment we live in München Germany (near the Alps) and sometimes in Baia Mare, Romania (near the Carpathian mountains). We spend as much time as possible in nature, hiking in beautiful mountains and forests, trying to keep a healthy lifestyle. To us, it is important remaining connected to nature. We traveled a lot and love to keep things as simple as possible. Since Ian is here we adapt even quicker to new situations, I think this is also usual for families with a baby (meanwhile Toddler).

2. Fill us in how you came up with the idea of creating your own brand Organic by Feldman?

That was actually a brainstorming with Remus, when Ian was born 18 months ago, we were very concerned about everything that would come in contact with him, we just felt like we want to offer him the purest and natural environment, which probably does not even exist nowadays. I already started during pregnancy to search for organic baby clothes and even if the market is pretty full, we felt like there must be a way to do things differently, to have a holistically approach, to have a beautiful meaningful design (stereotype-free) or just simply natural cotton clothing. (for ex. I could not find good quality pure fabric basics, not dyed and not printed, as our Beauty of Nature Collection) so we began some research in this area and hard search for a producer partner with the GOTS certification.

3. Why it is so important to you that your products are organic?

Professionally I worked as a Nutritionist-Dietician specialized in Food Allergies and Intolerances, so even before Ian was here we paid attention to what we are eating, of course as much as possible organic and this is not easy since we do not live on a Farm.

But back to organic clothes, there is nothing more pure and soft like the skin of a baby, and I just felt like offering the best conditions to keep my baby's skin pure, healthy and soft as much as I can. That is why our clothes are free of harmful chemicals and are made from 100% organic cotton. With all this in mind, we wanted to have a positive impact on the world we live in, that is why we tried to keep this way of thinking when looking at the manufacturing of the clothes. We all know and hear about horror stories from the textile industry, that is why we teamed up with GOTS, they keep an eye on the whole chain, from growing and harvesting of the organic cotton to the conditions of the skilled people who gently make the clothes. It's great working with people who like what they are doing.

4. What do you love about being a mumpreneur?

The freedom and the challenge.

I would describe myself as an idealist and spontaneous but also resourceful, being a mumpreneur offers me the possibility to manage my work/family time in my own way. To be there when needed is important to me. Once Ian was here everything changed, being a Mum is really a completely different Thing, all mums know that and if you want to make it more complicated than you go for being a mumpreneur. I love challenges and it is really challenging day by day to keep a good Balance between family and work, I would describe it like slacklining, concentrated but relaxed, somehow it works well.

5. What were your main struggles when creating the brand and how did you overcome them?

I must say that we are together involved in this and to bring it in one year at this level I could not have done it without Remus dedication and Ian being such a lovely uncomplicated baby.

6. What advice would you give to a mum when dreaming of her own business?

I am not sure here, being a mum it is already big business ;) but focusing in the hard times on why you are doing it, might be helpful, and of course, meditate, from time to time, do not forget to take a deep Breath :)
