#mumpreneurstories is a series of interviews by mumpreneurs who have joined Superhero Collective and share their journey to inspire and encourage others mums to live their dream. There is a lot we can learn from each other :) #mumpreneursquad
1. Tell us a bit about your family
Sophie: Adam and I have been together for almost 14 years and have two wonderful children - our son Beau, who is 3 and a half years old, and our daughter Indie who is 15 months old. Beau and Indie look very alike but are worlds apart in terms of personality; Beau is a very chilled and sweet little boy whilst Indie is a feisty but loving little ‘troublemaker’ (one of her many nicknames).
Steph: I am originally from Scotland and my background is in the Fashion Industry. Neil, my husband, and I have two wonderful daughters, Matilda (almost 3) and Margaux (6 months) we love being active and getting out and about.
2. Fill us in how you came up with the idea of creating your own brand called BeauTilda?
We’ve been friends for over 10 years and decided to take the plunge in 2016 to start design and production. It had been an ambition for years and having children gave us the idea to create lovely pieces for them and others to enjoy. We couldn’t think of a better person to do it with than each other and are loving every minute!
3. How does a typical day in your life look like? How do you balance being a mum and having your own business?
Sophie: There is no typical day with a 1 and 3-year-old tearing about! I tend to get out and about with the kids in the morning and then head home after lunch with a plan that Indie can sleep, Beau can have some chill out time and I can do some work - but as you’d expect it doesn’t always pan out like that. My husband is very supportive and so our evenings can be spent with me on this laptop whilst he supplies me with copious amounts of tea! I’m also just starting a new job so that will require rethinking it all again (I’m currently writing this on my first days commute into London - multitasking as always!) but the great thing is I have Steph and together we always work it out and support each other. I think that’s the key to everything, I’m only as good as the people and support around me!
Steph: It’s busy juggling the girls. It’s all about being organised and having a to-do list. I use my phone for everything as it’s quick and easy. I can email the factory or call the printers to check everything is on time. Customer orders come through our website at any time. When an order comes through either Sophie or I will message each other to say who is going to post it. I do all of the wrapping in the evenings or when the baby is having a nap. Sophie and I are in regular contact about Instagram posts and other things. We are so in tune though either of us will post. I generally work on spreadsheets for costings or other admin either when the girls have gone to bed or Matilda is at Pre-school and Margaux is napping. I try not to have my phone out when I am spending time with them. Plus it’s impossible to focus so it’s best to keep work and kids separate.
